Canterbury Horse Handlers
Specializing in handling weanlings and youngstock.
Your foal’s first lessons in being a big horse are crucial to his development. Done correctly (our way) and you will have a trusting, confident, well- adjusted foal who is able to accept new things as his education progresses. Done wrongly (not our way) and you could end up with a juvenile delinquent. Your foal will be taught to think, yield to pressure and to use his initiative to solve problems.
And the owner.
There isn’t much point in teaching the horse if he is the only one in your partnership who understands the lessons. We prefer to work with a horse with the owner present and it’s our hope that you will be interested in learning some of our techniques so you can continue working on his education in a way that makes sense to both of you.
Floating.
Fortunately Maurice has quite a wide repertoire of tricks and techniques to combat problematic floaters. He reckons he can float 99% of horses, whether they have issues regarding floating or not. Fortunately for his ego he hasn’t come across the 1% yet.
Confidence building.
It is important that you and your horse are comfortable and trusting of each other on the ground. Sometimes you can be scary and sometimes your horse can be scary, we will work with both of you to regain that trust and respect necessary for a happy partnership.
